* The ancient Roman law was no script. The Roman tried to learn those unwritten laws as divine laws from men to men. In the history of Rome twelve table was the first a written form of laws. That twelve was published in the republican period.
Some important twelve tables are narrated below:
1.On marriage: The old laws and customs that illegal all marriages between patricians and plebeians was confirmed.
2.On rights of creditor: Insolvent debtors were treated with great cruelty. If debtors became unable to repay the loan within sixty days, they could be sold as slaves or killed by the creditors.
3.On crime: In case of bodily injuries the barbarous principle of punishment was permitted. Such as, eye for eye, limb for limb.
4.On defamation: Any person who writes lampoons or defamations against his neighbours shall be deprived of civil rights.
5.On the right of appeal: Every magistrate's sentence can be appealed. The power of highest punishment was given to the comitia curiata.
6.On Summon: In case of any dispute was the duty of the plaintiff to take defendant before magistrates.If the defendant tries to escape, the plaintiff could arrest him. It he was very sick or old the plaintiff would arrange his conveyance.
7.On Fathers right: The father had absolute right over his children and he could imprison, sell or kill them. It the father sold his son three times, the son could be free from patria potestas.
8.On succession: The father could dispose of his property by will. His nearest agnates succeeded him on his death. In default of agnates the property went to gentiles.
9.On possession: Ownership was acquired by possession for two years in case of land and one year in case of movable property. But foreigners could not acquire the property by adverse possession.
