Social contract theory:
The social contract theory one of the theories of the origin of the state. According to this theory, the state is not created by God it come into existence out of a contract between the people and the sovereign.
According to this theory, there were two divisions in human history one period is prior to the establishment of the state called the "state of nature" and the other period is one subsequent to the foundation of the state called the "civil society". The state of nature was bereft of society, government and political authority. There was no law to regulate the relations of the people in the state of nature.
Criticism:
(a) The theory is unhistorical There's no historical record of it. It is not known to history that any such contract was made.
(b) There can be any right. Even if it is a natural rights. Because rights follow from the womb of the state. Thus, it is illogical.
(c) The theory is imaginary. It is not related with the reality. The state of nature and human nature are nothing but imagination.
